This procedure is commonly referred to as a “dilation and evacuation” or “D&E.” A D&E abortion is a safe and effective, in-clinic method of ending a pregnancy that can be completed in 1-2 visits depending on how far along you are. The first day is intended to prepare the body for the procedure by taking oral medications or using osmotic dilators to help your cervix dilate. The following day we will do the procedure in which we empty the uterus. (COMBINE DAY 1 AND 2. The provider will place a speculum, numb the cervix, use procedural instruments and use gentle suction to empty the uterus which may last 15-20 minutes. We offer many ways to reduce pain, including mild/moderate sedation medications at no extra cost.
You can expect to be greeted by our friendly, non-judgemental staff whose priority is to make sure you feel comfortable and supported during your appointment. You may bring support people to accompany you during your visit. You will meet our very experienced doctors, nurses and acompañantes (medical assistants/doulas) and have as much time as you need to make sure your questions are answered.
